Design a flexible task assignment

This project was created during an international design challenge organized by Bending Spoons, a weekend-long competition where participants from around the world were given a brief and asked to deliver a complete wireflow along with three high-fidelity UI screens.

Overview

In this concept, Hexabots are multifunctional robots used by an imagined lunar civilization. They help with everyday life, taking care of both technical tasks like material scouting, exploration and agriculture, as well as personal activities such as home maintenance.

The brief asked for a task-assignment experience that feels simple, efficient and accessible. One of the main challenges was giving users a clear way to keep track of their Hexabots and assign tasks quickly without adding complexity as the number of bots and activities grows.

Solutions

To address these needs, I explored multiple interaction models that would let users assign tasks in different ways depending on their preferences and context:

  • Drag & Drop: Assign tasks by dragging a Hexabot onto a task from the Home screen.

  • Task List: Assign tasks via the “+” button and choose a bot from a bottom sheet.

  • Voice Commands: Hands-free task assignment through a guided voice flow.

  • Bot Queue: Assign tasks directly from each Hexabot’s task queue.

  • Completion Feedback: Notifications lead to a simple confirmation screen when a task is completed.

UI Design

Alongside the wireflow, I designed the visual layer of the experience, creating a small ecosystem of Hexabots and task illustrations. I drew each Hexabot on the iPad using Procreate, giving them distinct personalities that matched their capabilities. I also created custom illustrations for the different task categories, helping users quickly recognize actions and reinforcing the playful tone of the concept. These visual elements supported the interaction model and added clarity to the overall experience.
